Kylemore Abbey, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland
Kylemore Abbey was started in 1920 by Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium in the aftermath of World War I. The Abbey is situated on the grounds of Kylemore Castle which was completed in 1871. It continues to be an active Benedictine community. The University of Notre Dame entered into an agreement with the Abbey in 2015 to convert one wing into a conference center for educational purposes. Kylemore is well known for its walled Victorian gardens and is located in Connemara, County Galway. Connemara borders the Atlantic Ocean on its western edge.
